What follow-up involves
Follow-up visits review how you are doing since the last visit, including benefits and side effects of any medication, sleep, stress and functioning. Treatment is adjusted when needed, and the diagnosis is revisited when new information suggests it should be.
Standard visits are typically 25 to 30 minutes. Extended visits of 50 to 60 minutes are available when more time is clinically useful.
How care usually unfolds
Care often moves through three phases, at a pace that fits your situation:
- Clarity. The comprehensive evaluation and initial plan.
- Stabilization. Closer follow-up over several weeks while treatment is started or adjusted.
- Maintenance or transition. Spaced visits for stable patients, or a planned return to your primary care clinician with clear recommendations.
Ongoing care is not an indefinite commitment. The aim is the right amount of care for as long as it is useful.
Between visits
Brief administrative questions can be sent through the secure patient portal once it opens. New symptoms, treatment changes and safety concerns need a visit, or emergency care when urgent. The practice is not staffed for urgent or after-hours clinical response.
Medication refills are handled through scheduled follow-up. Please request refills several business days before you run out.
Scope
Ongoing care is for stable adult outpatients. If needs change and a higher level of care becomes appropriate, Dr. Khan will help you find it. Controlled substances are not prescribed at this time.
